After School Program
Our after-school enrichment program is designed to provide Waldo students with additional opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and engage in fun, educational activities outside of regular school hours. Students can develop important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, time management, and problem-solving while enjoying the club. In addition, after school club participants make new friends and build strong relationships with their fellow Waldorians!
STEM Clubs
Chess Club
Playing chess enables children to develop important analytical and decision-making skills and build the confidence needed to succeed in other logic-related subject areas, including mathematics and science. During chess class, students are initially taught to recognize and name the different chess pieces. Students then progress to understanding their positions on the chessboard, the specific movements each piece makes, and the strategies needed to play chess with their peers.
Math Club
The Math club deepens students’ level of math skills and foundational skills and knowledge with a focus on critical thinking. This will be accomplished using games, activities, and mock competitions. Students will cooperatively work together to complete Math Challenges and Puzzles.
Science Club
In science club, students will complete many different experiments and engineering challenges that will keep students engaged and excited to learn about science! Each week we will complete a new experiment or challenge, exploring the different branches of science to learn and develop our understanding of the world around us.
Robotics Club
Students will explore the basics behind computer programming and coding through our weekly Robotics Club. Students use the most innovative and high-tech materials, from 3D printers and robots programmed with iPads, to sophisticated circuitry and engineering kits as they work collaboratively on long-term projects.
Engineering Club
Join our head of STEM, Ms. Angela for the Engineering Club! Engineering allows students to practice their critical thinking and problem-solving skills by completing various lengths of science and engineering experiments, art projects, and math challenges appropriate to the age group. They will explore different ways to build structures, manipulate resources, and focus on team building as well as working independently. Students will be able to express their creativity and gain self confidence in different ways through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.
Logic Lab
Welcome to the Logic Lab, where curiosity meets critical thinking! This after-school club is designed for students who love puzzles, problem-solving, and analytical challenges. In the Logic Lab, participants will explore a variety of logical reasoning activities, including brainteasers, strategy games, and coding exercises. The club encourages students to think outside the box, develop their reasoning skills, and approach problems methodically. It’s a great way for young minds to sharpen their cognitive abilities while having fun with like-minded peers. Whether your child is a budding mathematician, a future programmer, or simply enjoys a good challenge, the Logic Lab offers an engaging environment for all. Join us as we unlock the power of logic and discover new ways to solve the puzzles of the world!
Book Club and Writing Workshop
In the Book Club and Writing Workshop club, students will have the opportunity to practice their reading and writing skills! It is a student-centered framework for teaching reading and writing that is based on the idea that students learn to read and write best when they are reading and writing constantly, for extended periods of time, and about topics that interest them.
Foreign Language
Spanish
Bi-linguicism is more important than ever in our increasingly global world. During foreign language classes, students are taught to read, write, listen and speak the language and are also introduced to Spanish culture and heritage throughout their lessons.
Chinese Program
Our Chinese program provides students with a fully immersive language learning environment where they will focus on the development of speaking and listening skills. We offer a theme-based program that incorporates language games, stories, songs, content-based activities such as science experiments, and seasonal and cultural topics related to students’ daily lives. Through these engaging and meaningful activities, students will be able to understand and respond to simple questions, statements, and commands in common topics such as greetings, family, school, etc. They will also accumulate new vocabulary words about colors, shapes, body parts, food, numbers, etc.
Students will gain an introduction to the Hindi Language! Students at all levels at welcome to join the weekly Hindi
Club! Students will build on their understanding of the language. They will also learn to speak and write. Intermediate &
beginners both will also learn to read and write the language accordingly. Class will be divided as per beginner &
intermediate levels. Students will learn topics such as: Introduction to Hindi, Speak Hindi language, Write Hindi letters,
Learn Matras, barakhadis, Hindi grammar such as nouns, pronouns, How to greet in Hindi, Names of things in Hindi,
Reading stories, Numbers and much mor
The Arts
Private Music Lessons
These exciting private lessons will teach students to develop a strong foundation of musical language and the confidence to play different instruments. Classes can be customized to each student’s musical curiosities. Students have the flexibility to try new instruments until they find one, they are passionate about it. In class they will learn: How to understand the instrument, theory, rhythms, melodies, songs, and expression. Instrument Options: Guitar, Violin, Ukulele, Composition, Electronic music, Vocals, Trumpet, Percussion, Piano
Arts and Crafts
Students will learn how to properly paint, work with clay, collage and draw. Through crafts to painted masterpieces, this
will help develop your child’s fine motor skills and creative problem solving and gain confidence most of all. A few of the
things we will work on are: watercolors, yarn crafting, design, paper creation, & sculpting.
Mixed Dance
This dance class includes the styles of hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and ballet! In this class, children will work on their flexibility,
balance, memory and listening skills. Children will also reinforce their fine and gross motor skills through learning new
movements and mini dance combinations. Children will express themselves using movement to share how they are
thinking and feeling.
Bollywood Dance with Shehnaaz Dance
Our Bollywood class will focus on basic steps, postures and spatial positioning of the students. Teachers will
work towards building student concentration and focus, encouraging them to work independently. Students will
be taught to listen to musical cues/beats and time their moves with respect to the beat. Utmost importance will
be given to developing hand – leg coordination. Students will be taught to be aware of their movements and
transitions between moves.
Hip Hop with Latin Groove Dance Academy
This class helps students learn the basics of Hip-Hop along with some beginner to intermediate choreography using a mix
of music from the early stages of Hip-Hop beats all the way to today’s current hits. This class is a great place to start if you
have never taken a Hip-Hop class. The class is structured to repeat the same moves numerous times to help develop
muscle memory and retention and also serves as a very fun cardio workout.
Broadway Musicals and More
We are excited to continue our new partnership with Grammy, Tony & Emmy Nominated Broadway Star N’Kenge. NY Post calls her “Electricity” and N’Kenge has performed at the world’s most famous Venues and for dignitaries around the globe. N’Kenge has created a special Fall/Winter musical play called Holiday Extravaganza. This class allows for dramatic exploration that can provide learners with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have the means to express. Each student will have the opportunity of taking part in this full production presentation at our end of the year show in December. N’Kenge will work hand in hand with the students that will be specific to showcasing each student’s strongest attributes. Throughout the semester, students will also have the opportunity to work with special guest star teachers to learn about theatre, dance and more!
Poetry Club
Unlock your child’s creativity and literary potential with Ms. Ariana’s engaging Poetry Club. In this program, students will dive deep into the world of poetry, exploring descriptive strategies, metaphors, and various poetic forms such as free verse, lyric poetry, sonnets, and haikus. They’ll not only learn to read and appreciate poetry but also develop the skills to write their own. Poetry club offers a unique opportunity to explore international poetry, gaining insights into how different cultures express themselves through verse. This exposure broadens their understanding of global literary traditions and enhances their creative thinking. Poetry is a powerful tool for self-expression and storytelling. In poetry club, your child will acquire valuable skills that can help them excel academically while also having fun!
Public Speaking
This class introduces techniques for age-appropriate writing and delivering interesting, animated speeches and writing assignments. Topics include making introductions, using humor, quick-pick speeches, thinking on one’s feet, writing a speech, and other useful speaking techniques. Students will learn these tools through fun and lively exercises and creative assignments that will help them prepare for any kind of speaking from formal, research-based presentations to casual retellings of personal experiences.
Preschool
Construction Junction
Is your child interested in construction? If so, this is the
perfect club for them! Construction Junction allows students to learn through their interest! Learner interest matters because
when a topic connects to what students like to do, engagement deepens as they willingly spend time thinking, dialoging and
creating ideas in meaningful ways! We will do projects such as building structures (i.e. houses, bridges, roads, and so much
more) while also learning math, strengthening fine motor, and communication skills!
Alphabet Adventures
Welcome to “Alphabet Adventures,” where learning letters is a thrilling journey for our youngest explorers! Designed especially for preschoolers and kindergarteners, this afterschool club transforms the ABCs into a magical adventure through interactive games, creative crafts, and engaging activities. This club will guide our little learners through hands-on experiences that reinforce letter recognition, phonics, and early literacy skills in a fun and supportive environment. Through storytelling, music, and imaginative play, Alphabet Adventures sparks curiosity and encourages children to explore the world of language with confidence. Whether they’re crafting letter-themed art projects, singing catchy alphabet songs, learning to write letters in finger paint, or participating in letter scavenger hunts, every moment is an opportunity for growth and learning.
